I read the documentation on the EPA website but it is not clear to me if this means there is a cap on the amount of chemical that can be put on the cake. Let’s say I am making a chocolate cake and I want to add some baking soda to make it fluffy and I want to use at least 1/4 cup or more. Is that a problem with the cake and not with the chemical? I think the issue is that you’re trying to bake soda into the cake. The soda is supposed to be used as a leavener. It will make the cake rise and foam. There are ways to add soda to cakes, but not by baking it in as if it were a chemical in a recipe. You add baking soda to the wet ingredients in the recipe. Hi. How much baking soda are we talking here? [Reply] Baking soda is a chemical. It is used in baking and baking is part of cake baking. So, if you are going to use baking soda in cake baking, then yes, it is a chemical. However, if you are going to use baking soda for its purpose in cake baking and not as a chemical, then it is not a chemical. I was wondering if baking soda as you stated would be fine to use in this recipe. I know that it would be ok for baking as you stated, but I was wondering if it would be ok as a leavener in this recipe. If not, what kind of leavener would I need in this recipe to make it come out fluffy? Thank you. [Reply] Adding baking soda is acceptable in this recipe, but it has to be added to the wet ingredients and it has to be added at the end of mixing so it can react. If you add it to the dry ingredients, then it is acting like a chemical. It is not a leavening agent. I was wondering if baking soda would be ok to use in this recipe. It’s for a cake that I plan on frosting with marshmallow fluff, I know it would be ok for baking but I was wondering if it would be ok as a leavener in this recipe. If not what kind of leavener would I need in this recipe to make it come out fluffy? Thank you. [Reply] Baking soda is fine in this recipe. It is a leavener and not a chemical. I
