How to Become a Plastic Surgeon

Before becoming a plastic surgeon, you must have a four-year degree in a science-related discipline, such as biology or chemistry. After obtaining a bachelor's degree, applicants must apply to medical school and fulfil admissions standards.

In addition, you must pass the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and submit reference letters from healthcare experts. You will study anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology classes, and clinical rotations throughout medical school.

After completing medical school, the United States Medical Licensure Test must be passed (USMLE). Afterwards, you will be prepared to undertake a residency.

You will execute various surgical procedures throughout your residency and show your expertise. This is a very competitive procedure. Therefore it is essential to submit a comprehensive résumé and letters of reference from physicians familiar with you.

This vocation requires excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for success. These abilities will assist you in slicing through flesh and performing surgical operations, such as suturing wounds and cutting blood arteries.

A plastic surgeon must collaborate with other medical experts, including nurses and assistants. You must be able to identify these folks' contributions and be an effective team leader. You must also maintain your composure when things do not go as planned and act promptly to resolve the issue.
