In the following chapters, we’ll be taking you through the making of a scenario that looks at the rise of a power in Calradia, showing how weapons, armor, religion and society evolved as the story progresses. Planning the scene “Life in Calradia” is our chance to showcase the whole cross-faction play we’re developing for the game. We wanted to be able to have some fun with it, while also adding an element of depth to the world we’re trying to create. All the factions in Mount & Blade have their own strengths and weaknesses, and the player can easily avoid or fight multiple of them at once. The mod we are creating is centered around the rise of the Kingdom of Tallarn to the center of power in Calradia. The main aim is to have a story that’s interesting and entertaining, but at the same time well written and researched, where all the aspects of the game are kept in mind when writing the text. We didn’t want to rush into this, since it was already several months before the scenario was created. The story in the mod is set in the year 3210, at a time when the kingdom of Calradia was in a state of political turmoil, with the king, Dagoth, and his brothers fighting for the throne. At the same time, all the armies of the kingdom were gathering to have a final battle for the throne. One of the main features of the mod is that the main character isn’t some generic Orc warrior. The players takes the role of a farmhand and former prisoner of a warlord’s house, who has taken a new life with a new family and a new identity. He will face situations he is not prepared for, going against the faction he had been a part of. This will allow the player to feel like it’s a new world with the story we are telling, with the player having to make choices that will determine the future of the scenario and the world in Mount & Blade II. Tale of a different land So the story we want to tell is that of a farmhand that gets caught up in a war, is brought to a warlord’s castle and is tried and sentenced to die for crimes he did not commit.
