[NIC-1] Research and development of innovative network/access system and network software that supports integration of fixed and mobile network

[SIC-1] Research and development of technologies for an innovative computing platform that will serve as a future social platform

[DIC-1] Research and development of receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA) using in-house avalanche photodiode (APD) for 100GbE/400GbE, transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) using in-house high-power externally-modulated laser (EML) for 400GbE, etc.

[DIC-2] Research and development of laser cleaning technology for rusted steel surfaces adopting a diffractive optical element which forms a beam pattern of derusting

[HI-1] Human-centric innovative research and development on the new symbiosis between the real world and the cyber world

[SC-1] Cryptography research and/or implementation, especially in post-quantum cryptography, functional cryptography, and attribute-based encryption

[CD-1] Research on deep learning algorithms such as federated learning and edge AI

[CD-2] Research on quantum computing such as fault-tolerant quantum computing, hybrid quantum-classical computing, quantum error mitigation, and physical implementation of quantum computing

[CD-3] Research on audio and acoustic signal processing such as source separation, noise canceling, and acoustic modeling

[NS-1] Research on ultra-high-precision clock (frequency/time) networking using the state of the art technologies such as optical networking, clock synchronization, optical clock, and optical frequency comb.

[NS-2] Research on all-photonics network control using the state of the art technologies such as AI (deep learning, deep reinforcement learning) and advanced control-plane technologies.

[AS-1] Research on network infrastructures including optical/wireless communication systems (from access network nodes to end users), and physical infrastructures (optical fibre and cable, optica interconnections devices)

[SE-1] Research on earth science (esp. atmospheric, ocean and biosphere science) for weather and climate forecasting

[SE-2] Research on Internet of Things devices, system and data analysis for global ocean observation.

[SE-3] Resaerch on implementation of large-scale earth simulation programs in high-performance computing environments

[SE-4] Research on collection and analysis of global environment, social and governance (ESG) information to contribute for planning ESG strategies

[SE-5] Research on automatic and objective long-term prediction of ESG strategies using scientific and sociological approaches

[SE-6] Research on quantitative assessment methodology of well-being of company aiming to develop the ESG value"

[FT-1] Research on ultra-high-speed and ultra-low-latency media transport over optical networks which includes audio, video, light field, and other data acquired using emerging sensing technologies.

[FT-2] Research on ultra-high-speed and ultra-low-latency data transmission between long-distance data centers which utilizes disaggregated computing architecture and collaboration with underlying all-photonics networks.

[FT-3] Research on next-generation wireless communication technologies based on deep learning algorithms.

[FT-4] Research and innovation in the area of high-capacity optical transport system including advanced digital processing for optical coherent signal and deep-learning based optical network optimization.

[DT-1] Research and development of biosensing technology, disposable devices through material synthesis technology, artificial photosynthesis technology, and visualization of infrastructure status

[DT-2] Research and development of advanced hardware (devices, circuits, implementations, and system architectures) that combines electronics and photonics technologies

[DT-3] Research and development of optical and electronic devices utilizing silica-based planar lightwave circuit technology, compound semiconductor optical and electronic device technology, silicon photonics technology, and nonlinear optical device technology

[CS-1] Research on computer and human science related topics including speech recognition, blind source separation, interactive media design, multi-agent systems, natural language processing, machine learning, information theory, quantum information processing, and computational neuroscience.
