QuantumScope Corporation(QS) (NYSE:QS) makes batteries for Electric Vehicles (EV). QuantumScope was found in San Jose, California in May 2010. The company founders are Tim Holme, Jagdeep Singh and Fritz Prinz. When the separator fails, it can cause a car to catch on fire or explode. With the new technology, QS will build a better EV battery. Moreover, consumers will have safer batteries in their electric cars. Also, the battery’s charging time is better. Above all, the battery’s testing results show that it will operate in -30 degree temperatures. The EV Battery Car manufacturers and other companies are racing to develop the best EV battery. The company that develops the best battery will control the electric car industry. QS claims that its battery is “enabling a 15-minute charge to 80% capacity. This stock does have the potential to go even higher. Consider this, the one-year high for QS’s stock is $132.73. If QS can mass produce this battery, car companies will sell more electric cars in the future. Also, the Volkswagen Group (VG), has invested about $300 million dollars in QuantumScope. According to the Irish Times, “VG owns about 20% of the battery research organization.” Bill Gates is also a major shareholder in the Stanford University startup. The Shareholders QuantumScope’s stock price one year high is $132.73 and the one-year low is $9.74 while its market capitalization is $21.374B. The market capitalization is the stock price multiplied by the outstanding shares. Here are a few of QS’s top institutional shareholders: FMR, LLC 12,500,00, Janus Henderson Group PLC 9,029,133 and Board of Trustees of The Leland Stanford Jr. University 7,752,588. Almost 30% of QS stock is owned by institutional investors. In short, the Volkswagen and QuantumScope partnership gives both parties an edge in the EV battery business. Volkswagen will place the batteries in their new EVs. QuantumScope can set up new EV battery contracts with other companies. Of course, it is still unknown how much influence Volkswagen will have on QuantumScopes’s future.
