Redefining Leadership in the Age of Automation

Sr. Director HR Business Partner

Organizational leaders are deeply affected by the advent of automation, which has been a mix of positive and negative outcomes. Here are the main points to consider on how automation is redefining leadership this century. How Automation Affects Jobs While it's true that automation can make a business more efficient by handling redundant tasks, human analysts are still needed to oversee the technology and interpret the data it generates. The strive for financial efficiency will become an enormous factor in using less people to do more work. Machine learning software will play a role in this reduction. Although automation will give an enterprise the potential to replace a significant number of jobs with machines, awareness is growing in the business community that leaders must use moral principles and be socially responsible with automation. Sustainability is becoming an issue with stakeholders since it relates to every workplace being part of a larger ecosystem that affects society. It's important for business leaders to study the pros and cons of automation technology since it will become even more prevalent in the future. Adopting Socially Responsible Automation Most companies at present operate at the lowest level of automation, which is to use the technology to cut costs to help boost profits. This internal level of thinking does not take the broader community into consideration. Socially responsible automation takes society and the environment into account, in which the ultimate goal of automated systems is to create better working conditions and new revenue streams. This view also opens the door for creating new work for humans replaced by machines. A company that wants to gain recognition as being socially responsible can do so by promoting how it helps the community and treats employees. The most sustainable companies issue special annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports that allow shareholders to see how well the company lives up to its claims about helping workers and the community. These firms have clear values and place a high value on appreciating human labor and contribution of ideas to improve the company. They adopt transparent practices that allow employees to have a voice in decision-making. They look beyond just making profits and exist to make life better for not just employees, but society as well.
