Strategies for Building Effective Relationships

Boston, MA, USA
Relationships between the members of a working team are very important as they leave a certain imprint on all the work done. When there is a harmony and the team members help each other, it enables a better flow of new ideas and generally lets the team achieve better results. On the other hand, when there are misunderstandings, they are like an anchor that weights the working process down. For each employee, it is critical to find a proper place among others. If it is not done, it might lead to serious problems. For a person dealing with managerial responsibilities, it is vital to have a good contact with the team as it will enable effective cooperation. To be a successful leader one needs to have certain personal qualities: · Successful communication of ideas. A person might have hundreds of new ideas that will help to get the business off the ground. However, if this person cannot clearly explain these thoughts to the team, the latter will not be able to share his vision. As a result, even the best ideas will be of little use. · Confidence. The leader should always be sure in what the team is doing, no matter what the circumstances are. Even when there are some troublesome occurrences, he is to remain confident and, by doing so, raise confidence in others. · Commitment. If a leader expects the team to show their full potential in their work, the best way to achieve this would be to show a good example. If the team members see that the leader is doing his best, it will inspire them and they will do the same more willingly. · Creativity. In some situations, it will be useful to let one’s thoughts and ideas get off the beaten track. It will also show the team the leader’s deep understanding of the situation and his ability to think outside the box. · Positive thinking. All the members of the team are human beings, and positive working environment will help them to fulfill their responsibilities. It also concerns the leader’s trust in the team. If the team feel the leader’s positive attitude towards them, they will be motivated to do their job better. Building effective relationship with peers and superiors may be difficult because of the competition. For a new employee, it is even harder. An easy step is to learn everyone’s names as soon as possible since it will show respect and willingness to be a part of the team. Another advice is to be polite and ask people to do things rather than command them to accomplish one or another task. These steps are easy, but they make a good basis for future cooperation. If possible, one should support the views of other peers and superiors in discussions. When a good idea is proposed, why not to support it, even though one does not like the person who voiced it?
