Johnny Chakravarti, once a member of a little-known yamraj (or deity) cult in Pune, now runs a management consultancy firm, with his wife and mother-in-law. He is a techno-intellectual and socialite. Initially, he used to oppose his mother-in-law, Sangeeta, for her pre-monsoon visit to their home, and he himself is not adept at household chores. However, his mother-in-law has more patience than him and gets him to mend his ways and follow her commands. But, he doesn't like Sangeeta at all. But, Sangeeta and her son Tarun, a droll and straight-forward lawyer from a good family are a delight for him. Things take a turn for the worse when they accidentally invite his sister-in-law Anjali to their home and she realizes that Johnny is a fraud and shows her real self. Anjali is stunned at her behavior, but she cannot leave the house as she has already made a trip before the flight due to her marriage with a guy named Vinayak. Anjali accompanies her to their home, when a natural disaster makes the two stay in their home. Sangeeta eventually begins to understand her son-in-law and she finds out that his wife is a very important person in his life and also that his mother is very stern. With her son, he begins to get to know his mother better. To her shock, she realizes that he has never mentioned his father to her, even after living with her for decades. Furthermore, he refuses to talk about his father even though he feels there is some purpose to his stay with them. Johnny's mother wants him to get a job and her word eventually gets him a job in a company owned by his uncle. This shocks Johnny, as his father and uncle were always very tough on him and used to use their power to show him off. However, it is the woman in charge of the company that saves him from an easy way out and it is the woman who is instrumental in helping him deal with his mother-in-law and Tarun.
