A graduate of Syracuse University in New York, Alex Groothuis has successfully trained teams at both the national and international levels.
In his current position as Head Basketball Coach of Palm Beach State College, Alex Groothuis handles all aspects of the men’s program, including managing practices, developing new game plans, and finding talented young players to add to his team. Off the court, Alex Groothuis oversees academic monitoring and conducts budgeting for the department. Alex Groothuis' colleagues, including coaches of other conference teams, commend him for his team’s preparation and performance on the court.
A graduate student of physical education at Queens College in Flushing, New York, Alex Groothuis maintains a 3.75 GPA in the Master’s program in physical education while coaching full time.
Coach Alex Groothuis led numerous college teams to victory before taking the reins of the Palm Beach Community College program. As Assistant Basketball Coach at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, Alex Groothuis guided his men’s varsity team to a 19-9 winning record during the 2001-2002 regular season, and a 21-10 performance over the course of the 2002-2003 season.
In 2008, Alex Groothuis led a team of 12 AAU Division I high school students to a number one national ranking with Nike Team Florida. As a Co-Head Coach with the Amateur Athletic Union, Alex Groothuis prepared the high school students for careers in collegiate basketball.
On the international level, Coach Alex Groothuis helped propel the USA Maccabi basketball team to a gold medal in Tel Aviv, Israel, during the summer 2001 Maccabiah Games. Under Charlotte Bobcats’ Assistant Coach Herb Brown, Alex Groothuis designed new game strategies, assisted at practices, and engaged new players for the team of professional and Division 1 basketball players.
Seven years later, Alex Groothuis helped train a new generation of Team USA Maccabi players as a Court Coach, working with Head Coach Bruce Pearl. Alex Groothuis helped implement Coach Pearl’s training tactics and determine the final team roster. I have over five years of experience as an UI/UX designer. By incorporating data analysis and user interview, I have assisted many businesses in improving the user experience of their products and platforms.
