My name is Howard Cheng, and I have over a decade of experience in various roles within the electronics industry. My journey began as an IC Carrier (FCBGA & CSP) product engineer, where I honed my expertise in electronic components and semiconductor packaging materials. I then transitioned to a supplier management quality engineer (SQE) role, further refining my quality assurance skills within the semiconductor packaging field.
Furthermore, I leveraged my knowledge to contribute to the PCB manufacturing industry as a quality assurance specialist (CQE) and the connector field as a quality manager (QM). These diverse roles have equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of packaging, carrier boards, PCBs , PCBA processes, and the development of new process technologies. I have a proven track record of leading successful projects focused on improving yield rates.
Adding another dimension to my skillset, I hold the ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor certification. This qualification empowers me to conduct thorough quality audits and ensure compliance with this international standard.
One of my most noteworthy achievements was playing a pivotal role in establishing a branch factory in Vietnam. I spearheaded the efforts to attain ISO9001/14001/45001 certifications for the facility, demonstrating my commitment to quality excellence at a global scale.

- Lead a team of quality engineers, overseeing quality systems, quality assurance, quality verification, customer issue resolution, and everyday departmental management.

- Helped establish a branch factory in Vietnam and guided the company to obtain ISO9001/14001/45001 certifications.
- Successfully introduced 5 new products to the Vietnam factory, achieving customer satisfaction and obtaining mass production shipment approval.
- Used Lean Production methods to streamline production processes and optimize capacity, increasing production by 50% without adding any new tools or labor.
- Used process capability analysis methods to improve product design specifications and solve material loss problems caused by poor assembly compatibility.

- Managed the abnormal improvement and quality upgrade of Isola’s global glass fabric.
- Successfully led vendors to improve the quality of their glass fabric and completed relevant quality documents such as 8D report with 5WHY.
- Proposed and led a Lean project aimed at reducing factory costs and minimizing foreign object debris by replacing paper cores with plastic ones.
- Primarily responsible for managing the quality of glass fabric suppliers.
- Reason for leaving, the company was experiencing financial difficulties and had to downsize its workforce. It was a difficult situation, but I understood the need for the company to make tough decisions in order to stay afloat.

- Responsible for handling customer quality complaints, act as a liaison with other company departments worldwide and interface with OEM factories regarding quality aspects. In charge of all topic relate quality at OEM factories site.
- On specific projects, work closely with PM teams to launch of new products. Such activity would include process check, DFMEA/PFMEA, Q-flow chart check and first-article inspection.
- Evaluates the supplier processes and process controls to ensure product quality and reliability is compliant. Develops supplier capability with conducting continuous improvement actions.
- Lead IQC Team to make sure the product we received quality good.
- Manager a Lab in factory site.
- Primarily responsible for managing the quality of our main connector supplier.
- Reason for leaving, an opportunity presented itself that I felt was the right next step for me at that time. It wasn’t an easy decision.

- Found mismatch issue between SRO and Solder Ball in the marginal state, that causes low yield. Proposing a formula to review the compatibility of SRO and Solder Ball as preventive action for NPI team.
- Ask suppliers to practice improvement activities by self-feedback in factories reduce the escape rate, LRR from 88% -> 97%.
- IATF 16949:2016 under ASE training.
- Primarily responsible for managing the quality of all substrate suppliers.

- Develop the SPOP (Solder Plating on Pads) process for FCBGA substrates without increasing the cost of equipment. Produce it with a unique copper plating pattern and a special process flow to develop new products, thus satisfying Customer demand.
- Develop new material/process for next generation product, substrate applied on high frequency signal.
- 6 sigma GB certification under Unimicron training, familiar with Minitab.
