The Great Victorian Bike Ride 2018

One of the biggest bike rides in Australia. Organized by The Bicycle Network and run almost completely on Volunteers in the Provence of Victoria. An amazing community environment where riders of all ages have a chance to practice a healthy lifestyle as well as connect with the beauty of their natural land.

Camp Services Team

Richard, myself and David packing up one of our ten "Flexi Tanks" which we used to service clean water fountains, back up showers, and sumps for our portable dish washing trailer. This particular piece of equipment was integral in allowing our operation to leave as little a footprint as possible at any of our eight campsites along our ten day ride.

Fixing on the Fly

Richard and Rob Priestly (Team Leader/Engineer) replacing the worn our break drum on our portable dish washing station. Two enthusiastic young riders took the opportunity to pose for my photo of my team mates at work. There was an incredible spirit on this ride in which riders young and older worked together to create a positive environment and healthy lifestyle.

Service never stops

A couple pictures of myself working in the beautiful sun and satisfying rain. I am thankful to my team mate Jan for taking these shots; as I am usually the one behind the camera.

Riders Returning

Riders returning form a long days ride; ready for hot showers, a meal, some live music and a good nights rest. As service team members it was our job to make sure we arrived ahead of time to set up all of the essential water and power systems and to be ready to solve any technical problems. Then up early to pack down and begin the race again!

Permacultural Homestead

After working hard in Victoria I spent three months in the heat of the Queensland rain forest; learning the priceless value of clean water, clean food, clean air and sustainable off grid living. This was a game changer for me as someone who grew up in the inner city. I now seek to educate myself and the next generation on the importance of primitive life skills and our relation to our environment.

Land based Arts

Here are a few photos of a series of land sculptures I created for the lifestyle Village at Rainbow Serpent Festival 2018. This was my first time working at a major music festival and creating works from almost 100% natural and found materials. This one here is the Zen Garden, created from cob clay, wood, quarts and painted with ocher, all from the site.

Mandala

This was another cob clay piece I created as an intuitive instinctual mandala. The piece ended up taking on a life of its own; with the swirling gestural marks (made by my fingers in the cob slip) representing wind, waves, as well as cosmic fiery sun like swirls. This was my favorite piece to make as it just kind of made itself; I could see this and other cob-based art translating well into a group activity.
