Job Description

This Computer Management Assistant (CMA) position works in the Information Systems Center (ISC) and assists over 600 staff on Department of State systems and networks. The position provides technical support to customers working in Microsoft 365 environment applications and services, as well as the OpenNet and Non-Enterprise Network IT infrastructure routing and switching equipment. The CMA is responsible for supporting internal section websites, software applications, and hardware that provides information resources for all users at the American Institute in Taiwan – Taipei.

Systems and Services Support - 30%
Works on a team of eight ISC staff to provide technical support and assistance to users with workstation or network related problems in AIT Taipei and Kaohsiung. The incumbent troubleshoots and repairs hardware and software problems when possible and reports any problems observed. Installs, replaces, or relocates hardware and software as required. Trains and assists users with operation of both State Department and AIT-specific applications used, as well as and industry-standard software applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and communications programs.

IT Automation Solutions Development – 25%
Gather requirements, conduct research, analyze solutions, and create and modify MS Power Platform projects under the supervision of the Deputy Systems Manager. These projects provide solutions for repetitive or time-intensive tasks, such as customer data collection and retrieval or automated reminder/appointment systems. Systems designed typically have both a front-end and back-end interface to provide access to both customers and service providers. The incumbent keeps abreast of new technology, newly approved applications and systems software, and revisions to equipment/software in use to improve networking services and agency work processes. The incumbent maintains an awareness of AIT’s work processes and LAN system to determine if improvements can be made and recommends appropriate changes.

Network Infrastructure Support – 20%
Responsible for ensuring uptime of Internet circuits through AIT. Monitors for connectivity issues and takes action to resolve action through coordination with Internet Service Provider technicians. Communicates technical status of issues to other agency personnel and customers at post.
Maintains server room hardware and equipment providing network connectivity across multiple USG networks. Monitors for defective hardware and performs initial troubleshooting and maintenance. Communicates status of equipment with Washington-based technicians via phone and email. If equipment is under a maintenance contract the individual takes appropriate action to have hardware repaired.
Monitors the status of all PC hardware, paying close attention to mission-critical devices such as servers, storage, and network equipment. Monitors performance of individual PC’s, servers, and LAN/WAN, making adjustments to configurations and memory management as necessary.

Website Administration and Management – 25%
Coordinates with section and agency partners to advise and inform on content management on AIT SharePoint sites. Serves as a primary point of contact in the section for design, content layout, organization, and information architecture. Performs informal testing with users to improve the overall functionality. Implements permissions for new site content to ensure security through principles of least privilege. Enables AIT sections to update content in approved areas of the website. Advises on accessibility considerations for use by screen readers.

Requirements

Work Experience
At least three years of experience in performing systems administration, network administration or application support.

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems management, information science, data science, IT engineering is required.
