A good Math Teacher can help the poorest Mathematics student in class appreciate numbers. Unfortunately, not all Math Teachers have the skills to get every student to love the subject.
What abilities should appear in your Math Teacher resume skills that would convince the HR group you are the right teacher for their students?
1. Deep Understanding of Mathematics
A teacher who has a deep understanding of Mathematics is confident in his approach to teaching the subject. He can break down theories and procedures in language that can easily be understood by the student. Analyzing numbers, problems, and theorems are like second nature to him.
For this reason, schools usually look for Math Teachers who have completed a 4-year course in Mathematics and perhaps acquired a Master’s or Doctorate degree in the subject.
2. Creative Mindset
When it comes to teaching Math, a one-style-fits-all approach will not work. You should find other ways that will make learning easier and less intimidating.
For example, students that are having a difficult time in Geometry can practice with 3-D geometric puzzles. These types of puzzles can help them become more familiar with angles and lines of specific shapes.
3. Flexible Approach to Teaching
Perhaps, learning discrepancies are more evident in Math than any other subject. Some students lag far behind compared to others. If the Math Teacher does not address the issue, the lagging students may not be able to catch up.
In view of this, it is paramount for a Math Teacher to take a flexible approach to teaching the subject. For example, the teacher could identify the students who are lagging behind and have them assigned to another class where the students share a similar learning curve.
Another good example would be to schedule private instruction for students who are not progressing or have fallen back in class.
4. Excellent Motivator
Math can be an intimidating subject. One look at a geometric problem with all of the symbols and numbers and a student may wish he was someplace else!
