His conscious makes things happen, while his subconscious allows things to happen. The construction and deconstruction of shape creates a layering of color that adds depth and richness to the painting. For Abe Mashinsky, art is the accumulation of ideas, steps and processes. With his abstract compositions Abe does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.
