Greg Munks

The recipient of a bachelor's degree in business and accounting from Menlo College's School of Business Administration, Gregory "Greg" Munks is an experienced law enforcement professional who began his career as an officer in the Palo Alto Police Department and eventually became one of the department's youngest-ever lieutenants. In 1985, he was named Police Officer of the Year by Veterans of Foreign Wars. Greg Munks spent 12 years with the Palo Alto Police Department before being appointed undersheriff of San Mateo County. Gregory Munks was hired as second in command of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department as part of a team responsible for overhauling the department. He spent 13 years in this capacity and emphasized recruiting more women and minorities, among other goals. In 2006, he was elected as the county's sheriff. Through nearly 10 years in this role, Sheriff Greg Munks oversaw a 750-employee department with a budget of $240 million while ensuring the safety of citizens in five contract cities and unincorporated county areas. He also managed several regional task forces concerning issues such as vehicle theft, narcotics enforcement, and terrorism. In addition, he held membership with relevant professional organizations such as the California Narcotics Officers Association, International Chiefs of Police, and California State Sheriffs Association.
