James Dervin served as a government affairs coordinator and member relations specialist for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce before taking on his first legal position as an associate attorney for Freeman Mathis & Gary LLP. He then moved to New York City, where he served as a contract attorney and quality assurance reviewer at Synergy Legal Consulting, followed by three years as an assistant corporation counsel in the general litigation division of the New York City Law Department.
