Journal Manager
Key Responsibilities:
• Assisted in the production of the online journal/articles from receipt of manuscripts to online publication to an agreed standard of quality and agreed schedules.
• Liaised with editors, editorial assistants, authors, suppliers and internal departments in a timely and professional manner.
• Assisted with the development of meetings and conference calls with supporting materials and records related to the journal.
• Maintained data on websites and databases for all journal-related activities.
• Provided regular, accurate reports on an agreed upon schedule, demonstrating production performance against agreed goals, providing contextual information and analysis, and where appropriate making recommendations to improve processes and performance.
• Performed other production-related tasks and projects as assigned.
• Demonstrated effective organization and project management skills including the ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple projects/tasks and deadline simultaneously.
Highlights:
• Improved the editorial timeline of the journals under my portfolio by streamlining the editorial workflow.
• Reduced the number of incoming customer queries by making changes to the workflow and guidelines of the journals. This as well contributed to improve the editorial review time.
• Rolled out the journals to quality control service project, which helped to improve the quality of submitted papers. This service proved very beneficial to the editors during the review process.
• Served as a production Spoc and worked on a project to streamline production workflow by eliminating non value added tasks and thus improving the production timelines of team's journals by 11%.
• Participated in a new submission tool deployment project named EVISE. I was responsible for gathering data on bugs and improvement ideas on the tool from 3 of the assigned teams and collaborating with development teams for implementation.
• Shared monthly performance reports with editors/publishers, initiated quarterly calls to discuss journal’s health and improvement ideas.
• Have supported publisher in setting up journal strategy, appointing editors, publishing ethics allegation and journal statistics/analyses.
• Successfully handled a new journal/product launch from the scratch. Trained the respective editors and supported in marketing of the journal as well.
• Participated in RNNG tool deployment project by testing the tool, provided user stories and improvement ideas. Later, trained the team on the tool and was the single point of contact for any queries or support.
• Mentored and provided guidance to 9 new joiners during my tenure.
• Apart from the regular publication, I was also involved in managing the publication process for special content, which involved setting up the editorial system in preparation for article submission, providing guidance, timelines and status updates to our guest editors.
• Was part of sports and fun committee, contributing towards creating a stress free environment for colleagues.
