Tim Hays

Head women's basketball coach
Residing in Superior, Colorado, Tim Hays embodies the essence of motivation, leadership, and patience. Over the past two decades, his unwavering dedication to empowering athletes has transcended the realms of basketball, focusing not only on the sport but also on character building and holistic development. More than just a coach, he is a mentor, leader, and friend, deeply understanding that sports are about much more than winning. His basketball journey began in 2003 as a high school coach in Meridian, Idaho. This marked the start of an illustrious career characterized by hard work and perseverance. He instilled qualities like toughness and discipline in his players, leading them to numerous victories. His adaptable leadership style took him across continents, from Australia to Colorado and eventually to Southeastern University in Florida. Here, his team achieved a remarkable record of 106 consecutive conference wins and six straight conference titles, a testament to his ability to motivate and cultivate a winning culture. While in Australia, his efforts were recognized internationally when Basketball Australia awarded him Coach of the Year, solidifying his status as a top-tier coach. He continued his successful streak at the University of Colorado, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and diversity, leading the team to their first Sweet 16 in twenty years. His career has been instrumental in developing 52 All-Conference players, with 17 signing professional contracts, proving his exceptional ability to bring out the best in athletes. His personal life has been equally remarkable, shared with his wife of 21 years, Crista, a former professional basketball player herself. She was an integral part of his journey, coaching alongside him before pursuing a career in medicine. Their shared passions for travel, horses, and dreams of owning a hobby farm have been a source of joy and unity for them. In a significant display of family commitment, he paused his coaching career in August 2023 to care for two terminally ill family members. This decision underscores his profound dedication to his family, demonstrating that his virtues extend far beyond the basketball court. The couple's upcoming 22nd wedding anniversary is a celebration of their love, resilience, and shared strength through life's challenges.
