Because we're so much alike." "I was like, 'Adam is the only guy I've ever played with who would fit in this role.' " Scott and Gad, who have been friends since college, reunited in 2013's animated film "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul." "I don't know if you remember, but Adam and I have been talking about doing another one," Gad admits. "I didn't want to do a sequel, because that's what they've done before." At this year's Sundance Film Festival, Gad and Scott reunited for the first time in front of a live audience in a staged reading of the new script. "When we first started it, we said, 'Let's write a show that lets us see how we got there, and how we ended up playing these characters together,'" Scott tells THR. "And that was kind of the goal, was to see where we went from here." It wasn't a huge surprise that a pair of pals from one of TV's most beloved shows would decide to star in one together. But Scott says Gad and he both weren't sure whether they wanted to do another series until they found the right premise. "A lot of people came up to us and were like, 'I have a lot of friends that work at Google or like work at Parks and Rec,' so they sent us a bunch of different shows," Scott says. "We just kind of threw them in a folder and weren't really looking at them." What they found, Scott says, was "just so right. It's so us."
