About Me
I'm Henry Cheng, graduated from National Chung Hsing University with the ranking 3rd in the department and hold a Master's degree with a major in Chemical Engineering, which was awarded to me by National Tsing Hua University. Besides my major, I take many courses in the electrical field, including electrochemistry and circuitry, which have prepared me for being a battery engineer.
In Aleees, I've held 4 material R&D projects and established a new testing method. In DynaPack, I've participated in 10 battery pack design projects of Light EV, and 50+ failure analysis of the battery pack (IT, non-IT).
Curiosity and necessity are the mother of invention. Delving into electrochemistry, I have published 4 SCI papers and 1 patent in my battery career. Along with these experiences, I hope to develop myself to keep pace with the changes of the era in my profession.
Light EV Main Project Owner (Cell)
Cell performance (reliability) research - Perform Cycle life, DCIR, storage life, C-rate capability test... and establish data base of all the cell models. Recommend and apply the cells in LEV projects. Heat simulation by COMSOL. Cell runtime simulation with patent (Uninterruptible Power System Testing Method)
Communications and Market research - Communicate with cell vendors and customers worldwide to solve engineering problems. Search for potential cell models and vendors. <owned 10+ on-going projects>
Failure Analysis
Failure product transportation - Familiar with import policy and UN38.3, PI965, PI967... shipping regulations of battery. Arrange the logistics worldwide with the logistics partners.
Failure analysis of IT and non-IT products - Determine the possible root cause of the failure products by instrument analysis, including X-ray, CT-scan, PCBA reading, and cell disassembly. Co-work with cell vendors and explain the mechanism to the customer.
Cathode, Anode Material R&D
High Ni (NCM) material R&D - Develop new surface modification methods which could reduce the residual Lithium to 0.2 wt% and enhance the thermal stability of the material(100 cycle, 1C , 81%, 45 Celsius degree).
High Voltage material R&D - Develop new synthesis process of the cobalt-based material which could reduce 90% of the cost. Synthesis the new high-V cathode boosting the discharge voltage of the battery to 5.3V.
High C-rate anode material R&D - Develop new surface modification methods and carbon coating which could reduce 50% moisture absorbent of the anode material. Establish BET pore size analysis model.
