Devandran Karunakaran had a diverse group of friends at Leicester University, many of whom he still keeps in touch with - even going so far as to make one his best man for his wedding. While attending university, Devandran was an avid rugby player and often participated in local competitions. After graduating, Devandran headed to London and rapidly secured a training contract from an established law firm based in the UK. Given the competitive trainee solicitor market and the qualifications needed to become a UK solicitor, such opportunities take time to come by. Despite this, he decided to stay in London instead of returning home to Singapore and successfully worked for two international law firms while living and working in Piraeus, Greece. He is renowned for his expertise in ship finance law and offshore energy & renewables, combining legal knowledge with commercial astuteness to maximize value & profits for his clients. In 2020 devandran joined PT Indo Energy Solutions as an advisor to the board of directors- a role that necessitated his travelling around Indonesia from Singapore. Despite being based overseas, he remains actively involved with the Indonesian company. Devandran has dedicated himself to environmental volunteer work shortly and is currently engaged in food security-related volunteering. Seeing no one should be left hungry in this day and age, he believes it is important to give back. Aside from that, Devandran also takes pleasure in travelling with his family - together, they have been to Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Switzerland and Australia, hoping to instil a love for seeing the world in their daughter. Additionally, fitness is an important aspect of his life - eating nutritiously, exercising frequently and using natural resources for health are all things he and his family strive for.
