Steve Ferrara, M.D., a former Navy Captain and an experienced vascular surgeon, is a proud civilian who is currently serving in the Department of Defense as the Deputy Director of Clinical Operations and Chief of Clinical Optimization within the National Capital Region Market. He is a highly respected and experienced public servant who has previously served in Afghanistan, deploying with the Army, Navy. During his 25-year career in the Navy, Steve was the Chief Medical Officer for the Navy, which led the medical system that has over 63,000 medical professionals. As a Congressional Fellow for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Academy of Medicine, Steve was able to help draft major healthcare legislation while sitting on Capital Hill as a Health Subcommittee Fellow for the 113th Congress. He provided oversight to various executive branch agencies, such as the FDA, CDC, and NIH. Steve continues to be active in the field of healthcare economics and advocacy by both lecturing and writing.
