Her uncle is a retired army officer and has a son. After a quarrel with her husband and his family, she moves out of their house. She moves to Bangalore with a friend named Vihari. As she is not well versed in English, she stays with her aunt in her uncle's house. Nirupama gets a job in a call centre and settles there. One day she receives a call from the Tamil Nadu Police and is told that her husband has died.
