(English) By H Setiawan Mar 14, 2019 Page 15 This dissertation firstly examines the notion of 'quoting' in a literary text using the example of Indonesian language arts text, 'Negeri Van Oranje' and draws attention to the effects of imitations by giving quotation marks. This was done using Fairclough's discourse analysis (1988) which allows us to understand more about how text functions. The Indonesian language arts text, Negeri Van Oranje (The Country of Orange) is an example of the genre of the fictional narrative for this study. A frame structure is formed by the first sentence which states: 'Would you rather you were a Dutch boy or an Indonesian?' This is followed by a question that the author is asking the reader. The story is then conveyed through the next two sentences. In this book there are two types of quotations: 1) Two types of quotation marks that are present in the text. The use of quotation marks was chosen to be examined in relation to the effect of imitations. The type of quotes used by the author is using the double quotation marks, " " (triple-double quotation marks). The author uses them when he quotes from the work of other people, such as: 'Klaim Pembelian Waktu: Sektor Agama', 'Klaim Pembelian Waktu: Sektor Agama', 'Klaim Pembelian Waktu: Sektor Agama' and 'Waktu, Media, Ekonomi dan Humor' written by PT Gita Di Barat. The author of the text has imitated other sources by using quotation marks and therefore the quotation marks are a way of giving an impression of the original. The use of imitations can be seen as a way of presenting the original. In this text, the use of quotation marks is also used to emphasize on words and sentences.
