In Chapters 1 and 2, I present (1) a brief introduction to the development of the “Japanese” identity in Taiwan, its economic reasonings. In Chapters 3 & 4, I discuss the aftereffect of the Treaty of San Francisco and its continual unsettlement. Finally, I conclude on the inability to deal with decolonization and the need for conversations between the two countries on reviewing decolonization in recent years.
It aims to provide an understanding of the minority in Taiwan who have a great attachment to the colonial period to fulfil my initial interest in this topic, and to elaborate on the development of this self-identification from post-war to the modern period.
