Currently, there are a lot of people in the market that are looking for work, which means for any open position, employers usually receive hundreds of resumes. To increase your chances of a successful application, you have to show the manager who is conducting the interview that you are the best person for the job. In order to do this, you have to stand out as the perfect candidate.

1. Open in a Strong Way

You should open every interview with a statement that is clear on reasons why you are the right person for the job. Do not hesitate when it comes to leading the conversation, set the tone from the start. You should show from the beginning that you did your research well and that you understand very well what the job is all about. This will set you apart as a good candidate because of the background search.

When doing your research about a job, you can use online tools like LinkedIn and Glassdoor. They will help you get a good knowledge and experience the culture of other people working in the same job. You can also familiarize with the description of the job or posting. You should learn more about your employer by visiting their website.

2. Make a Perfect Resume and Cover Letter

Your resume should not be like a job description list. When the employer is going through your resume, he/she should be able to see and understand what you have achieved so far and what role you played in the organisation you were part of. Generic resumes normally have no power when it comes to helping you stand out. They do not tell the employer enough things about you because he doesn't just want to know what you were doing, but how you were doing it.

When it comes to crafting your cover letter, you should include each role. That will increase your chances of going to the next step in the process of recruitment. You should not make statements that are subjective and you should never write in terms like “excellent communication skills” or “strong attention to detail” because these statements don't mean anything to the person who is viewing your application.

3. Give an Impressive Detail About Yourself

The best way to stand out as the perfect candidate in front of the person who's interviewing you is giving an unusual and intriguing detail about your pursuits, interests, and hobbies. If you think that there is something the interviewer is going to connect with, use the search engine to Google the interviewer before reaching the place of interview. You can also go to the company’s social media page and find out more about its interests and personality.

4. Send a Letter of Thanks

A lot of candidates often forget about this aspect. After an interview, you should send a letter of thanks as soon as you can. You can send one to each one of the persons that took part during the interview with you. Don't use a thank-you email template, as it will not make you stand out. Send one which is customized.

5. Ask Questions

The interviewer is searching for a candidate who will add value to the team and to the job itself. Point out how you can do that by asking targeted and provocative questions and refrain from the ones that are confrontational or critical. Also, asking questions is a perfect chance to know more about the company and its role. It also shows that you have an interest in the job.

6. Prove That You are a Good Listener

Everyone likes when people listen to them. Pay attention to whatever your interviewer says. When the interviewer is speaking, give her/him time to finish. Then comment on what they were saying, and if you can, add something to it. This will prove that you are a good listener and you take very much interest in what the employer is saying.

7. Be Sincere

The process of recruitment is becoming more and more sophisticated each day. The employer always cross checks the facts so if it's found that you were lying in any matter, you'll lose your chance at that job.

From now on, each step you take when searching for a job, try to stand out as the perfect candidate. The world today is competitive so you need to learn these new rules if you want to win.
